April 24 is National Arbor Day

ATLANTA - Friday, April 24, is National Arbor Day.

The observance takes place each year on the last Friday in April, encouraging people to celebrate and plant trees.

The president and first lady marked Earth Day and Arbor Day by planting a maple tree outside the White House. It's a tradition that dates back 50 years when former President Richard Nixon celebrated the first Earth Day in 1970 by planting a tree on the South Lawn.
