'Armed and dangerous' burglars tied to large crime ring
COVINGTON, Ga. - Covington Police call a crew of armed burglars dangerous, and released surveillance of two gas station break-ins hoping people can help identify the gunmen.
Investigators believe the men are tied to a large ring with multiple burglary crews that could be responsible for around two dozen gas station break-ins across the Metro.
On Sept. 10, video from the Raceway gas station off Highway 278 shows four individuals, some wielding and pointing guns, break into a gas station and haul off a safe and cigarettes.
"In the event they do have contact with any of the public or law enforcement officers, we're concerned what they could do next," said Captain Ken Malcom with Covington Police.
On Sept. 12, a crew hit another gas station, this time at the Shell off Ga. State Route 142. Video surveillance given only to FOX 5 shows at least one burglar armed and brandishing a weapon upon entry.
Investigators are working to tie the crews and the ring to a large crime spree Saturday morning in Alpharetta and South Forsyth County. Police said a burglary crew hit up four gas stations and attempted to break into a fifth, and led officers on a car chase before they crashed. The four individuals were caught.
Police are working with multiple agencies to track the crews, their targets, and finally apprehend them.
Anyone with information on the identities and location of the individuals is asked to call Covington Police. Tipsters can also contact Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-TIPS.
