DeKalb County police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a taxi driver.

Brian McGhee has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. He's accused of killing taxi driver Zenon Jimenez-Perez. Police announced his arrest Friday morning.

Perez, 56, was shot and killed just after 11 p.m. on July 14 as he drove his cab on Henderson Mill Road. Paramedics rushed to the Sierra Hill apartment complex that night after 911 dispatchers received calls of a cab crashing into a tree in front of the complex.

“Paramedics pulled him out of the car and that’s when they realized he had been shot in the left arm. He was not shot from behind and the glass was not shattered, so we’re not sure where and when he was shot,” said Detective Paden.

On Thursday, police released several surveillance images of a man who was seen onboard a MARTA train at the Chamblee station the night of the murder. He was later identified as McGhee.

McGhee was taken to the DeKalb County jail.

Perez worked for Rodeo Taxi, but was moonlighting off-duty when he picked up the passenger, believed to be McGhee. Police said he was in Perez’s cab as Perez left the Chamblee MARTA station approximately eight minutes after McGhee was photographed on the MARTA train.
