Winter weather impacts flights at Atlanta's airport

Hundreds of flights were either canceled or delayed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as snow, freezing rain, and ice impacted Georgia on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.

More than 300 flights at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport were delayed on Sunday due to a powerful winter storm in the South and on the East Coast

FlightAware, the flight tracking application, reported 224 canceled departures and 122 canceled arrivals at 1 p.m. on Sunday. 

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines had 237 cancelations and 171 delays nationwide, according to FlightAware.

The Atlanta airport said it recommends travelers continually check their flight statuses. 

"In the event that airlines have cancelations and/or delays, we strongly encourage passengers to check with their airlines for the most up-to-date flight information and monitor the airport’s social media channels," a Hartsfield-Jackson spokesperson said in a news release sent to FOX 5.

Storm Alert Day: Ice possible as temperatures fall overnight

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight Monday in northeast Georgia, and ice accumulation is possible on roads overnight.

Airport officials also advised travelers to arrive at the airport no later than two hours before their flight's scheduled departure.
