Atlanta Airport MARTA station closed after train derailment
ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A disruption in MARTA rail service left the Airport MARTA station shutdown Tuesday night, and it remains down Wednesday morning.
According to MARTA officials, an out-of-service train was heading north toward the Armor Rail Yard, when it got stuck after two cars were derailed.
This reportedly happened on a spur track off the main line, near the Hartsfield-Jackson terminal.
Officials say no one was on the train and that no one was hurt.
Officials were directing passengers at the Airport Station to catch buses to and from the College Park Station.
Officials said Wednesday morning they were still working to restore service.
Currently, six cars are on the track. While four of those cars can be easily removed, one will need a crane to get off the track. The final car will need to be jacked up before being removed.
MARTA told FOX 5 News that they will begin the process to fix the derailed cars by daybreak on Thursday.
