ATLANTA - Monday morning holds the promise of additional rain throughout the day. The recent deluge has already left its mark, particularly in areas south of Interstate 20, where rainfall has approached five inches, leading to incidents of flash flooding.
For those venturing out on the roads this morning, extra caution is advised. It is inherently dangerous to gauge the depth of water on roadways. While our tornado risk is not zero today, the primary concern remains the ongoing flood risk, impacting a larger portion of our viewing area.
A glance at the current radar reveals temperatures in the 50s and low 60s, with little expectation of significant increases throughout the day. Flash flood alerts are in effect, particularly in areas where lightning is adding to the mix, such as near Fayetteville and Wayne LaGrange.
However, not all hope is lost, as the rain appears to be breaking up in the northern Georgia mountains and northern suburbs. Yet, this respite is only temporary, as additional rain is expected. The forecast indicates another 1 to 2 inches may accumulate, with the heaviest rain anticipated mid-morning.
The looming cold front promises to bring some of the strongest storms later in the day, accompanied by heightened winds. Fortunately, the evening holds the promise of drying out, although colder air will temporarily replace it. Tomorrow's temperatures are expected to hover in the fifties, with breezy conditions but welcoming sunshine.
Looking ahead, the weekend forecast suggests a return to the mid-sixties on Thursday and Friday. However, the twist in the tale comes with another chance of rain over the weekend. While Saturday may see scattered showers with a high of 58, Sunday brings cooler temperatures in the low fifties, reminding us that the weather is as unpredictable as ever. Stay tuned for further updates as the week progresses.
