Atlanta mayor appoints new leader for city's airport

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta's mayor has selected a new leader for the city's airport.

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced Tuesday that John Selden has been appointed general manager of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Selden is currently the deputy general manager of John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

A news release from Bottoms' office says Selden is a former Navy pilot whose assignments included stints at the Pentagon and in Puerto Rico. He was a commercial pilot after leaving active service until he took his first airport management job at Republic Airport in New York.

Selden was one of five finalists selected by a search committee. His appointment is effective Oct. 1 and will require confirmation by the Atlanta City Council.
