Voters choosing Atlanta’s next mayor have one fewer candidate to choose. Michael Sterling has announced he is suspending his campaign and throwing support behind another candidate.

He followed that announcement by declaring his support for current Atlanta City Council President Caesar Mitchell.

"Regretful, but also happy to announce today, I am suspending my campaign for mayor of Atlanta and putting the full weight of my resources, putting the full weight of my campaign, behind Council President Mitchell and supporting his bid for mayor," said Sterling.

"Michael Sterling's endorsement of my campaign, I think is a reflection of his belief, and hopefully his supporters’ belief, in my ability to lead the city and my ability to set a new tone from the top. And I think it is important to note, that I am, and make no bones about it, I am the only Democrat that can win this race,” said Mitchell.

Sterling was the Executive Director of the city's Workforce Development Agency before launching his campaign for mayor.

Election day is two weeks from Tuesday.
