Atlanta officer opens fire on fleeing vehicle during early morning traffic stop
ATLANTA - An Atlanta police officer opened fire on a vehicle that was fleeing a traffic stop in a northwest Atlanta neighborhood early Monday morning.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, an officer pulled over the vehicle around 2:44 a.m. in the 1500 block of Moores Mill Road, just east of Peachtree Battle Avenue NW.
As the officer approached the vehicle, police say the occupants began throwing items from it.
Police say the vehicle took off at that point.
The officer fired his weapon, but police say it does not appear the vehicle or those inside were struck.
An intensive search for the vehicle continued throughout Monday, but officers have not been able to locate it or the people who were inside.
The officer was not injured.
