Atlanta Police Department hosts back-to-school event

It's back to school season, so many in the Atlanta area are make sure students are ready for their first day.

Atlanta Police held a back to school event on Saturday to help students have a little fun before heading back to the classroom.

Officers went door-to-door in the Thomasville neighborhood to invite school-aged children to get a free haircut and some food.

The APD says they do events like this to help make students excited about the fresh start of a new school year.

"In the time period which we are right now which is very hard on law enforcement, doing the right thing, reaching out to community, especially the kids, is very easy," Officer Jean Mesidor said.

Officers say they were able to help more than 30 children in the neighborhood get a haircut.
