Atlanta police searching for suspect in laptop shoplifting investigation

Atlanta police are searching for a man accused of stealing multiple laptops from a local Office Depot.

Officials say the theft happened on Dec. 7 at the store at The District at Howell Mill shopping center on Howell Mill Road.

According to investigators, a man entered the store, grabbed two laptop computers, and walked out without anyone noticing.

"A silver HP laptop and a black dell laptop," said Atlanta Police Lt. Daniel Genson. "He put one inside his jacket and one in his backpack before he walked out."

Investigators were stunned at the crime.

"It’s very brazen, especially this time of year, when we know there are extra shoppers inside these retail spots," said Lt. Genson. "Doesn’t really make too much of an effort to disguise what he was doing."

The crime was not discovered until the following day.

"And that’s when they noticed those computers were missing from the display," said Lt. Genson.

The laptops cost a few thousand dollars each.

Investigators say the man wore a black jacket with the letter "A" printed on it. He was also wearing ripped blue jeans, a red shirt, and a black skull cap.

Police warn retailers to be extra vigilant this time of year.

"Retail thefts this time of year are always on an increase," said Atlanta Police Lt. Daniel Genson.

Investigators are asking the public to call the Atlanta Police Department if you can identify the shoplifting suspect at (404) 577-8477.
