Atlanta rapper Young Thug allowed to travel through Atlanta airport

Atlanta rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, has been granted permission to travel through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The approval came just hours after his attorneys – Brian Steel and Keith Adams -- filed the request yesterday.

What we know:

The ruling by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker allows Young Thug to use the airport for business and other lawful purposes. This marks a change from the original restrictions imposed in the Fulton County racketeering case, which had banned him from metro Atlanta for a decade.

Young Thug’s legal battles stem from a high-profile RICO case involving allegations of gang-related activities.

The backstory:

After spending almost two and a half years in jail, Williams pled no contest to one count each of conspiring to violate the state's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and participating in criminal street gang activity and guilty to several other charges, including gun and drug charges.

Williams was given credit for time served and released from jail and banned from Atlanta except for very specific events for 10 years as part of his probation.

In December, Williams asked the judge to be allowed to visit his Atlanta home for the holidays. His request was denied, but the judge did rule that he could make limited visits to his Atlanta home beginning in 2027 if he remains out of trouble.
