Storm damage across metro Atlanta

Crews were out in full force rescuing people in metro Atlanta trapped by falling trees and heavy flooding after the overnight storms.

Officials say the drivers had been trying to maneuver through the storm when their vehicles got stuck at the intersection.

Thankfully, both individuals were rescued safely.

The rescue was just one of many early Wednesday morning after waves of heavy rains hit the metro Atlanta area.

On Flagstone Drive in southeast Atlanta, four people became trapped after a falling tree smashed into their home.

Family members tell FOX 5 that one of the residents was in the living room when the tree pinned her against the sofa.

Firefighters were able to get all four people out of the home without any injuries.

Crews also responded to reports of stranded motorists on Wilkinson Drive near DeKalb Memorial Park, but could not find anyone.

Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services issued a warning to drivers about flooding on Upper Riverdale Road and Gardenwalk Boulevard at 8:18 a.m. Both roads were closed until futher notice, according to their Facebook post

The Roswell Fire Department also warned drivers to use caution because of flooding in the area. According to the fire department, the Chattahoochee River is rising and water is flooding nearby streets. The City of Roswell advised drivers to avoid the area of Azalea Drive at Willeo Road and expect delays at East Crossville Road and Bent Grass.

Fire officials tells FOX 5 four cars had been stranded after driving around barricades and getting stuck in the flooded waters. Firefighters have been able to pull some vehicles to dry land, but others remain stuck with no way for tow trucks to reach them.
