COBB COUNTY, Ga. - An 11-year-old Austell girl and her mother are sharing their story of a possible kidnapping as a warning to other parents. They said the girl might not be safe if not for her quick thinking and running away.
It happened Wednesday morning near the intersection of Ivy Pointe and Oak Ridge roads.
“So scared,” the girl said.
The terror could still be heard in the girl’s voice hours later. The 6th grader, who did not want her name used or face shown because of the situation, said she was standing by herself at the bus stop around 8 a.m. when a man tried to grab her.
“As I was walking down bus stop I saw a guy from up the street he was already coming down in a rush. So he started to wave at me and he coming. And he slowed down. And that's when he took his keys out of his car and opened up his door and had he came towards my way. And it was like he was following me,” the girl described.
That’s when the girl took off running.
“And I ran into my neighbor's backyard. and I quickly called the police and then I called my mom and I ran to my neighbor's house,” said the girl.
“It’s one of the phone calls no one wants to hear. I mean I was on a walk and my little girl called me crying to come help her, that someone had tried to come get her. that's someone trying to kidnap her,” said Alexandra Idugboe, the girl’s mother.
The girl’s mother said she thought her Ivy Pointe neighborhood off Thornton Road was safe until now.
“I’m just glad she is okay and my baby’s safe. I am just thanking God that it’s just another story complete that she’s alive safe and with me,” said Idugboe.
Residents said they have been trying to move the bus stop for a while as they believe it is in too secluded of an area. They would like to see the stop be moved into the middle of the neighborhood where there are also more eyes.
