Auto theft suspect crashes car after GSP chase, innocent man seriously injured
ATLANTA - Georgia State Troopers told FOX 5 News the man behind the wheel of a stolen Jaguar left behind a trail of destruction after fleeing from a trooper on Interstate 20.
"The Trooper spotted him speeding in the HOV lane and the westbound direction of I-20. He initially stopped, but then he fled and got off the highway at Flat Shoals Road," said Georgia State Patrol Trooper Lt. Richie Harris.
The suspect crashed the Jaguar then fled on foot. The state trooper pursued him as the suspect circled back to the spot where he crashed the Jaguar and that's where he was able to gain access to the trooper's patrol car. He fled in the patrol car and caused a three-car crash," Lt. Harris said.
According to Georgia State troopers, an innocent man suffered serious injuries after his car was rear-ended and flipped on Fayetteville Road.
The victim's name has not been released and the suspect, who was eventually caught not far from the crash scene, faces several charges. State troopers said they found a gun inside of the stolen Jaguar.
Lt. Harris said the wreckage along the quarter-mile stretch of I-20 should serve as a sobering reminder to every driver.
"Just stay in your car if you've been stopped. Be accountable for your actions and don't make your issues everyone else's issues because it ends up putting the public In harm's way during a pursuit," Lt. Harris told FOX 5's Portia Bruner.
