Beloved Carrollton High teacher resigns after arrest
TALLAPOOSA, Ga. - A Carrollton High School teacher resigned shortly after being arrested Tuesday night in Tallapoosa.
Officials confirmed math teacher Steve Martin was arrested in a sting while attempting to meet up with what he thought was an underage girl he befriended online. Carrollton City Schools said the incident does not involve a current or former student.
"When we heard about his arrest, we were shocked and found it hard to believe," superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus was quoted as saying in a release sent to FOX 5 News. "Mr. Martin was regarded as one of our exceptional teachers and students and faculty alike held him in high regard."
Martin was booked into the Haralson County Jail.
