Body found in Lake Lanier identified
HALL COUNTY, Ga. - It was a shocking discovery on Lake Lanier Saturday afternoon. Boaters enjoying a day on the lake found a body floating on the surface.
A spokesperson for the Hall County Sheriff's Office said the body was identified early Saturday evening as that of Thomas Wayne Chapman, 36, of Gainesville. Deputies said his body was found around 2:30 p.m. in the area just south of Don Carter State Park on the northern end of the lake.
Investigators said there were not obvious signs of foul play or trauma to the body. An autopsy, expected to be performed by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, will reveal the exact cause and manner of death.
