Bodycam footage released of Cobb County officer killing pet dog during 911 call

The four-minute edit of the footage released by Cobb police Monday afternoon shows the officers knocking on the Carr family's door.

When police began speaking to resident Justin Carr, two dogs ran out the door toward the officers, who began to panic.

One officer drew his taser, the other his gun, yelling orders before opening fire on the dog.

Cobb County Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer called the incident "tense and unpleasant" for everyone, but he said as far as he can tell after an initial review, no policies were broken.

While the internal investigation continues, he said the two officers were back on the street on regular duty.

He said the agency would release the raw footage in its entirety later in the day, in compliance with the Open Records Act.

Chief VanHoozer also said he hopes that police can learn from the incident.

"Is there something that we could have done? I don't. I don't know that there is, but, that's something that will have to be asked." He said. "I believe that this family and our officers have the same exact goal, and that is not to see this happen again if we can, if we can help it."

FOX 5 spoke to Carr, the man in the video, by phone after the news conference.

He was furious with how the incident was portrayed, adding, "We are not giving up."

Carr indicated that he has a lawyer and will pursue legal action after the incident.
