Water main breaks, issues continue for portions of metro Atlanta after freeze

While the worst of Georgia's freezing, cold Arctic blast is behind us, many areas throughout the state were left putting together the pieces for residents experiencing severe water issues.

As facility delays, closures, and water outages continue to be reported, this list will be updated regularly to bring the latest information county-by-county.

Here is what we know:

Clayton County

A Boil Water Advisory remains in effect Wednesday for Clayton County for residents with low pressure and whose water has been restored. Anyone with low pressure or no water at all should call 770-960-5200.

Closures/delayed openings

Forest Park City Hall including all finance and executive offices, human resources, planning, building and zoning, recreation and leisure, and the Forest Park Senior Center will reopen on Thursday.

Water distribution sites

The Clayton County Water Authority is moving their distribution center on Thursday. It will be held at the CCWA’s W.B. Casey Water Resource Recovery Facility located off Flint River Road. The entrance to the facility is located at 8890 Roberts Road. Signs will point residents to the distribution site. The site will be opened between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. or until supplies last. One case per vehicle and resident ID is required. 

Cobb County

While the county saw several water issues, there are no boil water advisories in place.

Closures/delayed openings

Vinings Branch Library, the West Cobb Senior Center, the Freeman Poole Senior Center are closed until clean crews finish repairing the buildings.

DeKalb County

The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management says the Boil Water Advisory that was issued on Monday was lifted Wednesday afternoon after a review by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

The county continues to repair water main breaks around the county.

Water main repairs update

Water crews will be repairing an 8-inch water main break near 1224 Hammond Drive near Perimeter Mall into Thursday morning. Water in the area may be out for residents. Traffic in the area could be impacted. The repairs are scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. Thursday.

Water distribution sites

The county is distributing one case of water per vehicle on a first come, first served basis to residents with IDs at the following locations:

  • 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. - County Line-Ellenwood Library, 4331 River Road, Ellenwood, Ga. 30294
  • 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. - Scott Candler Library, 1917 Candler Road, Decatur, Ga. 30032
  • 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. - Tucker-Reid H. Cofer Library, 5234 LaVista Road, Tucker, Ga. 30084
  • 8 p.m. – 9 a.m. - Exchange Park Recreation Center, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur, Ga.

JenCare Senior Medical Center, from noon to 4 p.m., is also giving away water to residents while supplies last on Thursday. That is located at 2124 Candler Road Decatur, Ga. 30032.

Fulton County

Atlanta Water Shed has not issued a boil water advisory. It is closely monitoring pressure throughout the system.

Residents of Fairburn have been asked to report any water issues to 770-964-2244 or at the city's website

Water distribution sites

The county is distributing one case of water per vehicle on a first come, first served basis to residents with IDs at the following locations:

  • 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Fire Station No. 6; Cedar Grove Road, South Fulton
  • 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Fire Station No. 4; 5890 Plummer Road SW, South Fulton

County residents can bring containers for filling

  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Fairburn Annex building at 40 Washington Street, Fairburn

The city of Fairburn is also distributing cases of water Wednesday evening to residents with IDs at the location above. One case per vehicle will be handed out at the following location and time.

 South Fulton Service Center Updates

  • The South Fulton Service Center will remain closed Dec. 28. Find alternate service locations here.

The "*" above denotes a county location that was damaged and will likely not reopen after the first of the year. 

Henry County

The county continues to monitor possible leaks. No water advisory has been issued.

Pickens County

Water distribution sites

Residents can bring jugs or containers to fill up water at the following locations:

  • 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Water Maintenance Building on Pioneer Road
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Jasper City Hall
