Bomb squad called after possible explosive discovered
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Members of the Cobb County Police Department's Bomb Squad swarmed a house in Acworth Tuesday morning after the discovery of a possible explosive device.
The incident began at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday as deputies with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office executed an arrest/search warrant at the residence off Zachary Court near Baker Lane.
A sheriff's office spokesperson told FOX 5's Portia Bruner they had warrants for 35-year-old Brent Christopher Allsup on charges of theft by taking and making false statements.
They also had a seizure notice for a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe.
During their search, deputies said they discovered a possible explosive device in the vehicle parked inside the garage.
Deputies quickly evacuated six residences in the area and called in the Police Bomb Squad.
Video from Sky FOX 5 over the home showed authorities searching another vehicle, and an officer with a police K9 searching the area.
The incident frustrated neighbors who were forced to leave their homes for five hours.
Officer Sara O’Hara of Cobb County Police told FOX 5 bomb squad officers could not immediately classify the device or tell if it was active, inactive or a decoy.
O’Hara confirmed Allsup, who has a prior arrest from last October on charges of a public container violation and possession of a controlled substance, could face new charges connected with the discovery of the device once they complete their investigation.
