Man at center of possible hostage situation flees

Police thought a homicide suspect was barricaded inside a South Fulton home earlier. It turns out he was long gone by the time police made it inside.

A man who police say shot and killed another man before engaging in a standoff with SWAT Thursday evening in South Fulton remains at-large.

Officials say their search began after the body of a man was found shot multiple times outside a home on the 6100 block of Lamp Post Place around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Initially, South Fulton Police say they called in the South Metro SWAT team to a home in the Buffington Park subdivision because officers believed the person responsible for a deadly shooting may have been inside the home holding hostages.

After several hours, police say they believe that person slipped out and fled the area before officers arrived.

The name of the victim has also been released. The family has identified him as 28-year-old Quentavious Gooden, a husband and father of two.
