Business replaces flags stolen from veteran's memorial
GORDON COUNTY, Ga. - A Gordon County veteran is overwhelmed after a business owner replaced several flags that were stolen from his memorial.
Army Veteran Richard Rogers built a memorial in Gordon County that honors the military, law enforcement and first responders. But two weeks ago, thieves stole all nine flags that decorated the structure. He shared his story with FOX 5. And soon after, several businesses and groups offered to make donations.
"The people have been great. They reached out to us. The community support is unbelievable," Rogers said.
Andrew Cook, operations manager for Atlas Flags Inc. in Tucker said he saw Rogers' story on social media and had to get involved. He mailed over flags to Rogers Monday.
"Some disrespectful person came by and cut down his flags. We felt like this was an easy opportunity for us to give a very small token of our appreciation back to the community," Cook said.
Rogers plans to put up the flags in two weeks. By then, he hopes to have a security system and lighting installed near the memorial.
