ATLANTA - A car accident in Atlanta turned out to be more than just an accident. One of the cars involved in the crash happened to be one of seven stolen moments earlier from a dealership down the road and the crime was caught on surveillance video.
Atlanta Police said recovering these vehicles are a top priority. A surveillance camera captured an armed man kicking in an office door. He rummaged through cabinets. Another camera, shows a second man also looking through drawers and they're looking for keys to cars parked at the dealership
Team Auto Sales owner, Eric Mills, said the guys were in and out.
"Less than five minutes. got in the window, ransacked, got the keys, started pull cars out in less than five minutes which is why I believe it was more than two assailants," he said.
Mills thinks they would have gotten more had it not been for the fact one of the cars stolen was involved in an accident, which is why Police were called to the area. Officers quickly determined one of the cars came from a nearby dealership
"They went to the dealership and discovered that had been broken into and there were keys on the ground," said Sgt. John Chafee, Atlanta Police Department.
Chafee said three of the seven stolen cars were recovered as of Monday afternoon.
"It's concerning. We don't know what these vehicles will be used for so we want to get them off the street as quickly as possible," said Chafee.
Which is exactly what Mills wants too. Monday morning, he expressed his frustrating, feeling like APD wasn't doing enough to track these cars down.
"Seems like APD isn't trying to help us," Mills said.
Sgt. Chafee said that's not the case and this is a top priority for the department.
"Hearing he is upset without response, that's something that's concerning to us. We don't want a citizen to call for us to come out and be upset with our service. We're looking at whether we did something wrong or if we could have just done better," said Chafee.
Mills has been working with police to recover the remaining cars.
