Woman killed at Gwinnett County house party

Neighbors in the Georgetown Commons subdivision in Grayson left in shock Friday after an 18-year-old woman was shot and killed overnight during a house party on Chance Lane. Neighbors say after the gunfire partygoers took off.

Gwinnett County police are investigating a homicide at a possible house party in Grayson.

Officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a report of a person shot at a home on Chase Lane at around 1 a.m. Friday.

When officers got to the scene, officials say they discovered what they say "appeared to be a house party."

After clearing the scene, the officers found the body of an 18-year-old at the home. She was identified as Shania Green by the Gwinnett County Police Department on Tuesday morning.

"I heard like a big boom," said James Guem. "I'm not sure if it was a shotgun, but after that, when I was looking out my front window, there were just cars from that area just rushing away from it."

The shooting left neighbors in the Georgetown Commons subdivision in Grayson in shock after the shooting.

"It's always quiet," said James Guem. "It's like one of the safest places around."

Homicide detectives worked with crime scene investigators at the home throughout the morning to gather evidence and process the scene.

"We don't have a suspect in custody, but what we do know is that this happened at this location, it's not a random act or someone's going around just shooting people," said Corporal Juan Madiedo with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

A neighbor said she called police earlier in the night about the noise, but nothing was done. Police describe it as a house party with dozens of people in attendance. Investigators do not know a motive, but believe it was sparked by something at the party.

"Things like this can happen anywhere, it's unfortunate," Madiedo said. "We just want to make sure that whoever is responsible is brought to justice."
