Woman charged in connection to toddler's death

Police charged a Stone Mountain woman with concealing a death after discovering the body of a child in the Chattahoochee River.

Cobb County police have arrested a Stone Mountain woman on charges of concealing the death of a toddler found in the Chattahoochee River.

The Cobb County Fire Department made the gruesome discovery at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Paces Mill Park on the 3400 block of Cobb Parkway.

Officials tell FOX 5 that Cobb firefighters had gone to the river to do a public service announcement about water safety when they found the toddler floating down the river.

"It's a bit ironic that in preparing to do that, they found a child in the water that had drowned, or a deceased child, we don't know specifically if the child drowned or not but that was a bit ironic," Sgt. Wayne Delk, Cobb County Police Department.

Body of child found in Chattahoochee River

Cobb County Fire discovered the body of a child floating in the river Thursday morning during the making of a public service announcement.

Friday, officers arrested and charged 27-year-old Breyanla Cooper with concealing the toddler's death.

"Our detectives did receive information from the public that did lead them to suspect and they were able to actually identify her and make charges and make an arrest in this case," said Sgt. Delk.

Investigators have not confirmed the relationship between Cooper and the toddler and have not released any information about the child. However, police tell FOX 5 that no missing person report has been filed for a child matching the description.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation released a composite sketch of the child Friday evening as they continue to work to identify the body.

"We don't have anything to release at this point. Still waiting for that from the medical examiner's office and the detectives," said Sgt. Delk.

Anyone with information regarding the toddler depicted in the sketch is asked to call the GBI tip line at 770-499-4111.

Cooper is now being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without a bond.

An investigation continues.
