Cobb County Fire discovered the body of a child floating in the river Thursday morning during the making of a public service announcement.

Cobb County police are investigating the death of a child after a body was found Thursday morning in the Chattahoochee River.

The Cobb County Fire Department made the gruesome discovery at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Paces Mill Park.

"Cobb County Fire, they came out here to do a public service announcement just to teach about water safety and as they got out here, they noticed there was a toddler or a child of some sort that was floating down the river," said Officer Shenise Barner.

Police said they can not determined exactly how old the child is or its gender.

"We are not sure, a toddler-maybe one or two years old," Officer Barner commented.

Police in Cobb County said no missing person report has been filed for a child matching the description. Investigators said they are working with other agencies to determine who the young child might be.
