Clarkston High School lockdown: 2 students arrested after weapon reported
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Clarkston High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday following reports of a student with a weapon, according to DeKalb County School District police.
Authorities confirmed that the lockdown was prompted by an incident involving students but emphasized that everyone in the school building was safe.
In a letter to parents, Principal Pattie Lemelle detailed the response to the situation. "This afternoon, school staff and the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) Police responded to reports of a student with a weapon on campus. We immediately went into a school lockdown," Lemelle wrote.
She added that two students were arrested and "will face appropriate legal and disciplinary consequences related to this incident." Lemelle commended the response of staff and law enforcement, calling their actions "swift" and "professional."
The letter also urged families to remain vigilant. "As always, we encourage students and families to continue to use our highly effective practice of ‘See Something, Say Something’ by telling a parent/guardian or staff member any time they suspect there may be an unsafe situation at school," Lemelle wrote.
Clarkston High School, located on North Indian Creek Drive, remains committed to ensuring the safety of its students and staff, the letter emphasized. Parents with questions were encouraged to contact the school directly.
No further details were released regarding the students involved or the weapon.
