Clever Signs Hope to Create Awareness for Drivers
MARIETTA, Ga - The Marietta Police Department, along with their STEP Unit has a clever way of grabbing your attention at dangerous intersections.
The Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit with the Marietta Police Department is responsible for investigating fatal traffic crashes, enforcement of traffic laws in those areas which analysis indicates an elevated amount of crashes. The STEP unit is comprised of four officers and one sergeant.
“We wanted to create a moment that turned into encouragement for drivers to remind them to stop at a stop sign,” said Public Information Officer, Officer Wallace. “We did not want to be ‘boring’ in our message to just write ‘stop’, we wanted to grab the drivers attention in a unique way and it’s working. It’s not that hard to stop at a stop sign.”
The goal of the comedic signs are to create awareness of stop signs along Marietta’s roads. “We want our drivers to be safe and that is our goal of the signs,” said Wallace.
Every few weeks, the STEP unit will come up with a clever and funny way to grab driver’s attentions. “We place the signs according to the most dangerous intersections that’s giving us a lot of issues,” said Wallace.
