Cobb County goverment employee accused of cashing county check

A Cobb County government employee was accused of cashing a check made out to the Cobb County Civic Center, according to officials.

Ivan Stephens was arrested and charged for forgery and theft by deception. Stephens is accused of writing his name on the payee section on a check written for the civic center by someone wanting to rent the facility for an event, according to police.

When the check was returned to the person who wrote it, they found Stephens' name on the back, and immediately called officials, according to police. Stephens allegedly cashed the $4,600 check and took the money, according to officials.

Stephens was booked into the Cobb County jail, and the investigation is on-going, according to officials.
