Cobb County Police officer honored as a hero
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Cobb County Police took a moment to recognize one of their own on Wednesday evening.
They honored Officer Oscar Escarcega after he pulled a woman from a burning car.
It happened two weeks ago near Dobbins Air Force Base.
When Escarcega arrived on the scene, the car was engulfed in flames and another officer told him he had heard a woman screaming inside the car.
That's when police said Escarcega ran towards the car, reached into the burning vehicle, and pulled her out.
Officer Escarcega said he has received a letter from the woman's family.
They said she has been in critical condition, but stable condition since the incident.
As for what caused the initial fire, police said that's still under investigation.
