Cobb County police officer passes away

COBB COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - The Cobb County Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Officer Anthony Walter Pereira, 28, of Stone Mountain, passed away last Friday due to illness.

Pereira’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Saint Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church in Snellville.

“As our department grieves, we ask our community to come together for his family in this time of sadness,” Cobb County police said on Facebook.

Pereira honorably served two tours in Afghanistan from 2009-2013 before working for the Cobb County Police Department.

He leaves behind his daughter, Khana.
