COBB COUNTY, Ga. - North Cobb Christian School is mourning the loss of one of its seniors after she was killed in a car crash on her way home from school Monday afternoon.
"It was a shock to all of us because I remember seeing her in the cafeteria with her friend group just a few hours before," Upper School Principal Megan Strange said. "She was going to grab a few things then come back up here to work on an art project."
Senior Kathleen Sutz started at the school as a fifth-grader and was part of the Visual Arts Academy.
"I had the privilege of knowing her over the past eight years," Upper School Principal Megan Strange said. "She would do anything for anyone."
The Georgia State Patrol said the accident occurred on Rutledge Road in Paulding County. They believe that Kathleen left the roadway and hit a tree. The car eventually caught on fire after the crash.
"I spoke with Kathleen's father and he said, 'Kathleen is with Jesus,'" Strange said.
Tuesday morning the school gathered to remember Kathleen with her parents and younger sister Jacqueline, who is also a junior at NCCS. Students decorated Kathleen's parking spot with bible verses and flowers drawn in chalk art.
"She will be remembered by her friends and our school community as very creative, loving, thoughtful, and as someone who always made herself available to others," Strange and Head of School Todd Clingman said.
Kathleen's family is in the process of finalizing her arrangements.
