Cold case murder: Beloved father, grandfather remembered 6 years after being gunned down
ATLANTA - Dec. 8, 2018, is a day Randi Dorsey will not forget. It is the day her father, Kirk Dorsey, was gunned down in southwest Atlanta.
"To hear that you're never going to see someone again is probably the most heartbreaking thing I think that could ever happen to anyone," she said.
Atlanta police say Kirk was shot and killed on Childress Drive in southwest Atlanta as he walked home from a store late on a Saturday night.
"My dad was a bubbly, friendly, just wonderful guy and the store that he walked that route often," Randi said.
Who was Kirk Dorsey?
The 60-year-old father and grandfather has 11 grandchildren, but he never got the chance to meet three of them. He was a beloved family man who is still deeply missed.
"He was the heart and soul of the family and he really kept us all together, kept us all happy," Randi said.
This week marks six years since his death and Randi says police do not have a clear motive, but she says investigators looked at it possibly being a hate crime or gang related.
"I'm just so afraid that they're out there and could do this again," she said. "It really is just shocking how people can do such terrible things and then just continue to live on."
Who killed Kirk Dorsey?
The hope now is someone, somewhere will come forward with new information to help police catch the killer.
"It would be a sense of relief to know that that person's off of the streets," Randi said. "Obviously, it would never bring him back, but I think that he would rest better knowing that that person was found," Randi said.
Police say they have no new information to share. If you know anything, you’re asked to call Atlanta Police or Crime Stoppers.
