College student killed in Fairburn, crossing highway
FAIRBURN, Ga. - It was a somber farewell to a Fairburn student whose death may save lives in the future.
Kameelah Easley, 19, was killed Tuesday night while trying to catch a MARTA bus in Fairburn. The Georgia Military College student was hit by a car while crossing Highway 29 south of Highway 138. She was trying to make her way home to her College Park apartment.
Police said the driver involved was not charges in the accident.
Fellow students and faculty gathered at the quad of college to say goodbye. They also gathered because Easley’s death sparked a movement for change.
The mayor of Fairburn said his staff has been working hard, connecting with MARTA and Georgia's Department of Transportation to re-route busses and improve safety on Highway 29.
