SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Officials at a wildlife center in Savannah say they euthanized a cougar that was popular with visitors after the animal developed arthritis and kidney disease.
Oatland Island Wildlife Center veterinarian Lesley Mailler says that Comanche, who was almost 19 years old, died on Tuesday.
Mailler said Comanche had been doing well until recently, when kidney failure caused him to stop eating and become listless.
Animal care technician Audra Taylor tells The Savannah Morning News that Comanche had a unique personality that set him apart from his younger counterpart, a 4-year-old male named Shanti.
