Court date set for former APD officer re-indicted on murder charges
ATLANTA - A former Atlanta police officer who was re-indicted on murder charges appeared in a Fulton County courtroom Monday.
James Burns is charged in the shooting death of Caine Rogers.
In June of 2016, prosecutors say burns shot and killed Rogers while investigating car break-ins at the Monroe Place Apartment complex in northeast Atlanta.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined Rogers was unarmed while driving out of the complex and posed no threat to Burns.
The first indictment was dismissed because of a procedural issue.
Burns next court date was scheduled for November 5.
