Crafty thief steals wheels from cars at Jonesboro apartment
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Sometime in the middle of the night Thursday into Friday, thieves struck several cars, somehow managing not to stir any of the residents at an upscale Jonesboro apartment complex.
On the way out to work around 7 a.m. Friday, neighbors began knocking on doors alerting motorists that tires, wheels everything down to iron had been taken.
The tenants said not again. They remember thieves working the Fieldstone Glen complex before. Several had had enough and walked over to the leasing office to demand better security from management.
Clayton County police parked and left a car in that very same lot. But the residents figure the thieves know the cruiser is just a decoy vehicle.
After a tense meeting with one of the managers, the residents walked away with a promise that a private patrol service would be hired.
