Serious crash on Interstate 20

A driver told FOX 5 crews how he pulled a man out of a burning car after a crash on Interstate 20 in Atlanta.

A crash involving a wrong way driver shut down a major intersection of Interstate 20 and sent multiple people to the hospital on Wednesday morning, police say.

The crash and fire happened around 3 a.m. at the intersection of I-20 eastbound and Hamilton E. Holmes Drive in Atlanta.

Crews responded to the scene to remove debris from the area.

Officials say a driver heading the wrong way on the interstate crashed head-on into another vehicle, causing a series of collisions.

FOX 5 crews at the scene spoke to a driver who says he pulled a man out of the burning vehicle.

"We got the fire extinguisher and started to slow the fire down," the driver said. "I just kept pulling until I got him out, man."

Medics transported four people to Grady Hospital hospitals, the Atlanta Police Department said. One of the patients suspteained critical injuries.

All lanes were reopened by 6:30 a.m. although traffic remained heavy in the area.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
