A southwest Atlanta homeowner came home to a surprise Wednesday: a freshly painted crosswalk leading directly to his driveway.

At first, Matthew Miller laughed at the new addition in disbelief, but he came to find out that it was no joke.

"It's really an embarrassment, to be honest with you," Miller said.

Miller watched the transformation from his security camera and when he arrived home to see the changes in person.

"I was in disbelief, to be honest with you. I literally stopped, paused, looked at it and thought, ‘This has got to be a joke. I'm getting punked or there is something clearly wrong here,’" said Miller.

A contractor, who Miller believes was hired by the homeowners’ association, had striped several intersections Wednesday. It just so happens that this crosswalk lines up perfectly with Miller’s driveway.

"It puts an extreme amount of focus on the house. I think it puts attention on the house. I think that it is almost comical," he said.

Miller understands the importance of codes and safety but said this new white-stripe welcome mat is unwelcome.

"This has created a little more than an eyesore. I think it has created a little bit of craziness," Miller said.

He has logged his concerns with the homeowners’ association and asked for workers to make changes. He hopes they will see what he sees: an unusual placement for two paths to cross.

"I would like to see that crosswalk removed that is leading directly up to my driveway," Miller said.
