Long lines to see bioluminescent waves

People lined up in Southern California to see see bioluminescent waves

A lot of people ignored shelter-at- home orders in Los Angeles in the hopes of seeing a rare phenomenon called bioluminescence.

People were looking for an explosion of neon blue colors in waves as they crashed onto the shore.

The glow is caused by a red tide in the area --which is an algae bloom -- that gives off a glow whenever agitated by waves or other movement in the water.
