Cuthbert man arrested for killing 23-year-old man in Stewart County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested 26-year-old Tyrone Smith Jr. of Cuthbert on charges of Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder in connection with the death of 23-year-old Delquan Harris, also of Cuthbert.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Dec. 22. Around 3:20 a.m., the Lumpkin Police Department requested assistance from the GBI to investigate a shooting on Matilda Street in Lumpkin, Stewart County. Officers found Harris with multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. He was transported to a hospital in Columbus, where he was pronounced dead.

Smith, who was in possession of a handgun, was arrested at the scene. Witnesses reported that Smith shot Harris during the incident.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
