A murder suspect held Gordon County Sheriff deputies at bay for hours.

Deputies responded to a home of Mt. Zion road near Resaca late Wednesday night.

Authorities told FOX 5's Marc Teichner, a woman was killed in what investigators are calling a domestic dispute. A man in the home, later identified as a suspect, refused to come out. Deputies surrounded the home, as the standoff dragged on for hours.

"I am just devastated. I can't believe something like that is going on around here. It's a sad situation," a neighbor told FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor.

A neighbor said Dwight and Krystal Jones' 11 -year -old daughter ran to her house asking for help. The neighbor said the child said, " my daddy has a gun and I am afraid my mom is in trouble. "

The neighbor dial 911, when deputies arrived, they say Dwight Jones immediately opened fire.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed Thursday morning that the incident was an officer-involved shooting.

"Deputies were absolutely unprovoked. When deputies arrived there, they were immediately confronted with the victim of the domestic violence situation running out of the house and a volley of shots from the perpetrator," Assistant Agent in Charge Brian Johnston remarked.
