Decatur homeowners fear for safety in neighborhood plagued by reckless drivers
DECATUR, Ga. - Homeowners in a DeKalb County neighborhood complain reckless drivers are taking over their streets. They say cars speed by and do donuts in the Poplar Springs subdivision of Decatur. They say it gets so bad they worry someone could get hurt, or worse.
"It’s horrible right now, and it’s scary," says one neighbor.
Homeowners, who don’t want to reveal their identities out of fear of reprisal, say that since January cars have been zooming up and down Patti Parkway, putting people’s safety at risk.
"They could possibly lose control and run into someone’s home, an individual, a car," another neighbor says.
"It’s very dangerous," says another neighbor. "We have children who play in the neighborhood. They’re out here on small bikes."
The same homeowner says the problem is off the charts.
"On a scale of 1 to 10," the neighbor says, "11 or 12."
DeKalb County police confirm they sent a patrol car to that subdivision on Monday night around the same time neighbors complained.
Neighbors want to slam the brakes on reckless driving.
"This is my neighborhood, and we used to have a quiet neighborhood, and it’s no longer quiet," yet another neighbor complains. "It needs to stop before something dangerous happens, and then we’ll really be on the news."
