1 dead, 1 injured in shooting near Decatur Krispy Kreme
DECATUR, Ga. - DeKalb County police are investigating a deadly double shooting near the Krispy Kreme located on Wesley Chapel Road. Officials say one of those victims has died.
Dozens of shell casings littered Wesley Chapel Road Monday night.
DeKalb County police responded to the shootout and found two victims in a vehicle. Despite their best efforts, the passenger died at the scene. The driver was rushed to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
DeKalb County resident Shakana Ryan says she passed by the scene just as the investigation was starting.
"We literally were driving by and we were like, ‘Oh my gosh, what’s going on?' We thought the car just ran into the bus," she said. "We get out here, and we see there's crime scene investigators. There's a body in the car. What's going on?"
At least one car was hit by gunfire with bullet holes in the windshield and on the passenger-side door.
Crime scene investigators stayed on the scene for hours collecting evidence and talking to potential witnesses.
At this time, police haven't released any details about what led up to the shooting, the identities of the victims, or if they're looking for any gunmen in connection with the violence.
