DeKalb County police officer fires at high-speed chase suspect
DECATUR, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A DeKalb County police officer shot at a suspect who led him and other law enforcement on a 3-county chase.
Before 2 a.m. Thursday morning, Covington police spotted a man who was wanted for an aggravated assault driving a white Ford Edge crossover. The chase went from Newton into Rockdale and then into DeKalb County.
On Covington Highway near Glenwood, a Rockdale County deputy performed a pit maneuver on the suspect's vehicle. It then swerved and hit four law enforcement vehicles, three from Rockdale and another from DeKalb.
The officer driving the DeKalb vehicle struck by the suspect's crossover fired a single shot. He didn't hit the suspect, who still ended up injured due to the crash. Paramedics loaded him into an ambulance and rushed to the hospital with unknown injuries.
No officers were hurt.
The DeKalb County Police Department's internal affairs are investigating the case. Police said it's too early to know if the officer will be placed on leave.
