DeKalb County Police search for man in mother's 2005 murder

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - The parents of a murdered DeKalb County mother are trying to find their daughter’s killer 13 years after the trail went cold. They spoke with FOX 5 News Edge Anchor Marissa Mitchell Thursday hoping someone will come forward with the vital tip that will lead to an arrest and closures for them.

The parents of Tameca Dunbar remember the mother of three and social worker as loving person, with a lot to offer.

Police said Dunbar's life was cut short in September 2005 by a man who showed up at her home on Waldrop Hills Drive.

Her parents, Alvin and Dawn Spears, said it’s surreal to look back on it now.

Dawn Spears said she has mourned her daughter's death each and every day. She returned to the area this week to send her granddaughter, Dunbar's child, off to college.

Police said the teen, only 5 years old at the time of the murder, was with her mother that fateful day. Investigators said she was walking out the door when she was ambushed by the man, who was waiting at the door for it to open.

Investigators said the man strangled Dunbar to death inside the house before leaving.

For the Spears, they continue to be heartbroken that their granddaughter has to live with the memories.

The family admits nothing will erase their pain, but they hope to know who took their daughter's life will at least bring them closure. They just need someone to come forward with information.
