Downtown Connector reopens after 2 1/2 hours closure | What we know

All lanes of the Downtown Connector in both directions were closed for about two-and-a-half hours due to a person on an overpass.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. at the 10th Street overpass.

What we know:

According to the Atlanta Police Department, I-75/85 Northbound Expressway NW near 10th Street NW was shut down due to a suicidal person. 

Police spotted a man standing near the edge of an overpass and officers are working to get the man down.

Shortly before 9 p.m., authorities were able to take that person into custody.

What we don't know:

The name of the person has not been released.

It was not clear what, if any, charges they would face.

Dig deeper:

This comes just over a month after a similar incident in nearly the same spot. That incident forced the closure of the Downtown Connector near the Grady Curve for about three hours. One person was arrested.

The Source: The Atlanta Police Department provided details on the man while the Georgia Department of Transportation gave updates on the traffic. FOX 5 crews are at the scene monitoring the situation and will update throughout the night.
