ATLANTA - Officers are investigating a double shooting in southwest Atlanta believed to be connected to a deadly shooting that shut down Interstate 75 and 85 for hours early Friday morning.
Atlanta police tell FOX 5 around 10:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2700 block of 7th Street after reports of a person shot. Around the same time, investigators also responded to reports of another shooting at a gas station on the 300 block of Cleveland Avenue.
At both scenes, officers found two men with gunshot wounds. During their investigation, officials say they learned that the 7th Street shooting happened first as a part of an argument between a group of people. Medics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital.
Investigators believe the second victim at the gas station was an unattended target that was hit by gunfire during the first shooting. That victim is in serious condition.
According to police, this shooting is related to a homicide on the Downtown Connector that cause all northbound lanes of I-75 and I-85 to shut down.
Shortly after 4 a.m. Friday, on I-75/I-85 at Fair Drive, Emergency Medical Services spotted a vehicle with what appeared to be gunshots on the interstate and called in a report.
Law enforcement agents found two victims - described as men in their 30s - inside the car. The passenger was declared dead at the scene and the driver was rushed to Grady Hospital in critical condition.
Officials have not released the identities of the victims in any of the shootings.
The Downtown Connector shooting caused traffic on the interstates before Langford Parkway to come to a complete standstill. After hours of delays, all lanes of the interstate reopened, allowing traffic to move past the former crime scene.
Officials are asking anyone who may know something that could help the investigation to please call the Atlanta Police Department.
