Driver arrested after fatal crash on I-75 in Cobb County

A chain reaction crash left one person dead, another driver arrested and snarled traffic for several hours during the early evening holiday rush hour.

It happened on Interstate 75 northbound near Delk Road around 2:40 p.m. The Georgia State Patrol said a car made an improper lane change from the fourth lane to the third, causing the vehicle in the fourth lane to veer off into the back of a tractor trailer.

A man driving that car was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Troopers said drivers and passengers in the other three vehicles were not injured.

Troopers arrested Mark Burkhalter, 35, of Ellenwood. He was booked into the Cobb County Jail on Homicide By Vehicle (2nd degree); Improper Lane Change; and Failure to Change Address Within 60 Days.
