Driver killed after crashing into Arlington house

An alleged drunk driver died after crashing an SUV into a house in Arlington.

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2400 block of South Fielder Road. Tire tracks on the lawn show how the SUV hit a tree before slamming into the house. No one inside the house was hurt.

Derek Phillips, the father of the driver, 25-year-old Tyler Phillips of Arlington, went to the accident scene Friday morning. He said his son had been drinking at a bar hours before the crash.

"I guess maybe he lost count. I don't know. I know one is too many. I guess if the weather is bad and you are impaired by it, I don't think anyone should be drinking and driving. I don't think he realized what he was up against," said Derek Phillips.

The person who lived in the home called 9-1-1 after the crash. Phillips said his son died at the scene.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said late Friday they were investigating whether Phillips was overserved at an Arlington bar.
